Real estate isn’t new to me. I’ve been licensed since 2016 and spent about five years actively working in Texas, primarily with sellers. Now I’m back in Ohio, where my roots run pretty deep.
I spent my early childhood in Centerville and grew up in Oakwood, graduating from Chaminade High School. My family is still here, and my family’s connection to southwest Ohio goes back more than 200 years. My ancestors settled in the area in 1806, purchasing land patents signed during the Jefferson and Adams era. Gasper Township in Preble County was named for my third great-grandfather, Gasper Potterf. I have kin buried here.
So yes, I know the area — but more importantly, I understand people.
Life has a way of changing plans. Sometimes gradually. Sometimes overnight. A move may be exciting, stressful, necessary, bittersweet, or all of those at once. I’ve found that people tend to open up to me about what’s really going on in their lives. I listen, I keep their confidence, and I try to figure out what they actually need — not what I want them to do.
I’m patient, detail-oriented, responsive, and definitely not a high-pressure salesperson. I’d rather lose a sale than talk someone into a house that doesn’t feel right. I often tell buyers to slow down, sit for a minute, and listen to the “zen” of a property. It will talk to you if you let it. You’re the one who has to live there after everybody else goes home.
For sellers, I’m very aware that selling a home involves much more than putting a sign in the yard. Over the years, I’ve helped clients track down services, solve problems, coordinate details, and handle things they simply didn’t know how to tackle. That’s part of the job as far as I’m concerned.
Before real estate, I owned a small business in Texas for nearly 30 years. I also enjoyed acting in commercials and industrial productions, and picking up the occasional movie extra role. These days I still enjoy acting, road trips, and discovering places I somehow missed the first time around.
If you’re looking for an agent, let’s skip the sales pitch.
How about we sit down over coffee. Tell me what’s going on, why you’re thinking about making a move, and what matters most to you. I’m a pretty good listener — and usually a pretty good problem solver.
No pressure. No obligation. Sometimes a little good advice is all you need.
I’m Joseph Slonaker with Irongate Inc., REALTORS®, serving Centerville, Oakwood, Kettering, Dayton, Bellbrook, Beavercreek, and the surrounding area.
